Suits from the 1920s often featured unique style vests that may have been either double breasted or single breasted and had a far more formal appearance with features like watch pockets and lapels. You would find that the jackets would be slightly longer as well by an inch or two giving the jacket more of a coat look. Think of Nucky Thompson from "Boardwalk Empire and you get the idea. The vintage styles of the 1930s carried on with changes in the styles of vests and lapel designs on the jackets but certainly differed from modern era style suits. Towards the end of the 1930s is when the infamous zoot suit came about in the south west worn by Mexican-Americans and then got adopted by African-Americans all across the country with it's in your face style. All of these vintage style mens suits surely would stand out if you were wear them on a busy street in any of the major cities in America.
