Zuit Suit

If your grandfather was a Pachuco or maybe you're a bit younger and it was your great grandfather who was a Pachuco, chances are more than likely that he was seen wearing a Zuit Suit. Yes, the high waisted peg cuffed long jacket suits with the padded shoulders that just screamed attitude back in the 1930s and 40s. Your padded shoulder style suit with the long jackets may have been a solid color or could have had stripes. The coat would have a number of buttons, far more than your convention suit but you left it open anyway showing off your swagger. Wearing Zuit suit back then was societal equivalent of a slap in the face. A person seen wearing a zuit suit was a person that simply didn't care about what people think and was a renegade individual almost in the same vein that Bikers are today. It took a man with real cojones to bandy about wearing a zuit suit, showing off his attitude with an oversized brim zoot suit hat, chain swinging off his waist and posing ever so slightly. Back then, if you wore one of these long jacket padded shoulder suits, the ladies who your mother warned you about would come your way like flies towards a flame and you didn't care because hey, what does mom know anyway. That is why you started wearing a zuit suit to begin with.
